What is Private Duty?

“Private Duty” is a broad term that encompasses all types of in-home care. Care is considered “private duty” when it is being paid for by a long-term care insurance policy, by the patient or his/her family. There are also some services offered through the Department of Veteran Affairs H/HHA Program and the Medicaid Managed Care/Waiver Programs. Private Duty care can be short in duration (post-op) or long-term and is often requested by clients that prefer to stay in the comfort of their own homes rather than in a nursing home.

Understanding Brooks Custom Care

Brooks Custom Care is considered a “Non-medical home care” service provided at home by a caregiving professional. This type of care is not provided to cure or heal an illness or injury, but to ensure daily activities are completed safely to maximize the opportunity for recovery and/or quality of life. Brooks caregivers are agency employees that are required to have extensive experience providing care such as measuring vital signs, bathing and transferring clients safely, assisting with the management of daily activities, assuring a safe living environment and reporting concerning symptoms or behavior/function changes that may signal that a clients’ health condition has changed.

Either a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide will provide assistance in a home, assisted living / skilled nursing facility or even a hospital when a patient needs additional support or overnight assistance.

Who is eligible to receive private duty services?

  • Anyone who is struggling with the activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Family members where safety is a concern when left alone.
  • Individuals that are limited by a lack of mobility.
  • Post-operative patients that cannot take care of themselves.
  • Those with specialized conditions such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, hospice, end of life or other needs.

Transportation Partnership

Roundtrip, the leader in driving better health outcomes by connecting healthcare and transportation providers to patients, has launched its mobility services in partnership with Brooks Custom Care.

The new application gives the technology company a grip on a rapidly emerging and typically underserved area of the healthcare ecosystem. Whether it’s going to the grocery store, visiting a family member’s home, or taking another basic “lifestyle” trip, custom care clients will be able to schedule – in advance and on-call – rides to common destinations through care coordinators.
