Lou DeMark, PT, DPT, NCS
Neuromuscular Research Program Coordinator
Lou DeMark received his BS in Exercise and Sports Science from Ursinus College in 2007 and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Scranton in 2010. He completed a one-year residency program in Neurologic Physical Therapy through the University of North Florida (UNF) and Brooks Rehabilitation hospital in 2012 and is a board certified specialist in neurologic physical therapy. Dr. DeMark has been practicing at Brooks since 2011 and is currently the Neuromuscular Research Program Coordinator of the Brooks Rehabilitation Clinical Research Center. He also serves as contributing faculty within the University of St. Augustine Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. His primary research interests include balance/falls and locomotor recovery/adaptability following stroke and spinal cord injury through collaborations with the University of Florida and UNF. Dr. DeMark has presented his research at national level conferences and has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. In addition to his research and teaching endeavors, Dr. DeMark also serves as an active member with the neurologic section of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Focus Areas
Dr. DeMark’s clinical interests include neurologic physical therapy with a specific focus on stroke and spinal cord injury recovery. As an educator, Dr. DeMark is particularly interested in the development of clinical reasoning skills and advanced proficiency in neurologic physical therapy practice with current doctoral-level students as well as novice therapists. Dr. DeMark’s research interests include locomotor recovery and adaptability along with balance/falls with individuals with neurologic injuries.
