Taking care of your physical well-being doesn’t just involve eating right and exercising. It’s also important to ensure places you spend the most time in, such as your home, workplace and car are not acting as hazards to your health.

The average American spends 46 minutes a day driving according to a recent study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and the Urban Institute. Due to this frequency, small issues like sitting too far from the wheel can take a toll on your body.

One easy way to protect yourself from hidden dangers in your vehicle is by participating in a CarFit assessment. CarFit is a FREE, interactive and educational program that teaches participants how to make their personal vehicle “fit” them to increase safety and mobility when they hit the road.

Car Fit at Brooks Rehabilitation“CarFit events provide a great service to the community, and are especially helpful for drivers who are more elderly,” said Peggy Gannon, a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist for Brooks Rehabilitation.

Brooks is hosting two CarFit programs that are FREE and open to the community. The events will be held at our Bartram Lakes Assisted Living Facility on Saturday, May 21st.

The CarFit reviews 12 key safety factors including adequate space from the steering wheel, proper seat belt use, and properly adjusted head restraints. Each checkup takes about 20 minutes, and is not classified as driving test or mechanical inspection.

The event will also include a FREE soup and baked potato bar, and tours of Bartram Lakes will be available throughout the day.
