Cigna has selected Brooks Rehabilitation as a winner of the annual Cigna Well-Being Award for demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the health and wellness of its employees through a workplace wellness program. This marks the fourth year that Brooks’ efforts have been honored by Cigna and recognized as the leader in Northeast Florida health and wellness delivery to employees!

Brooks encourages its staff to lead healthy lives through a robust, year-round Wellness Program, ensuring that leadership, policies, practices as well as the physical work environment all support healthy behavior change. This commitment begins at the highest level, with CEO Douglas Baer and President/COO Michael Spigel participating in local health events alongside staff. Employees are highly incentivized to make healthy lifestyle changes, and Brooks is showing positive results in efforts to reduce key health risks.

“At Brooks Rehabilitation, we value the health of our employees as much as our patients so we are honored to be recognized once again with the Cigna Well-Being Award,” said Douglas Baer, CEO. “We know healthy employees are happier, more productive and better engaged with their work, which is good for the entire organization. ”

Brooks mandates a tobacco-free worksite, offers healthier food choices in vending machines and the cafeteria, and encourages physical activity such as walking groups during the workday. Staff members are rewarded for participating in onsite wellness campaigns, mammograms, blood drives, and biometric screenings; attending their annual preventive care exams; and for completing online personal health assessments that set goals and track progress throughout the year. Brooks offers coaching on weight management, stress management, cholesterol control and tobacco cessation. The Brooks Wellness Team is made up of volunteers from every location around the state and serves as dedicated “Wellness Champions” for their colleagues, by offering local, on-the-ground encouragement, education and mentoring, as well as organizing and promoting local health events.

“Cigna is committed to improving health in the workplace, and we are pleased to recognize Brooks Rehabilitation, who clearly share our passion for creating a healthy office,” said Dean Mirabella, Market President of Cigna North Florida. “We applaud their ongoing efforts  to help employees make healthier choices to live their best lives.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. employers lose more than $225 billion each year in productivity due to employee health problems. Cigna created the Well-Being Award to recognize employer clients that have a positive impact on the health and well-being of their workforce.

Applicants are evaluated based on the core components of their wellness program, including the goals, implementation, incentives, leadership engagement and employee participation. All applications are reviewed and judged by an internal, multi-departmental review committee from Cigna.
