When Surur was seven, his family tried to flee their northeast African home country of Eritrea, but when they attempted to exit, they were stopped and tortured by human traffickers with a goal of removing their organs. As a result of an injection, Surur suffered brain damage and eventually came to Brooks where he was treated at our inpatient hospital and eventually began outpatient services.
Yesterday, the JT Townsend Foundation provided Surur with a gift of an adaptive therapy trike. In the First Coast News story, Brooks’ Physical Therapist Steve Walcazak speaks about Surur’s progress.
