The Newcomers Club of Amelia Island has made a donation of $1,182 to help with the purchase of new equipment for the Brooks Wellness programs at the McArthur YMCA in Fernandina Beach.

The Newcomers Club of Amelia Island is focused on giving people who are new to the First Coast the opportunity to meet and develop friendships with others who live in the area. Member Rick Davis is also a participant in the Brooks Stroke Wellness program, and helped make the initial connection between the two groups by sharing his story of success with the club.

Newcomers President Terri Borakove said their group was inspired to make the donation because of the program’s impact as a valuable tool to ensure a higher quality of life for the members of their community. The donation will go directly towards purchasing a NuStep recumbent cross trainer for the McArthur YMCA in partnership with Brooks.

The Brooks Wellness Programs partner with several YMCA’s throughout the First Coast to offer a customized exercise and fitness plan to maintain ability and mobility. These programs are supervised by specialized staff who understand the unique challenges of a life-altering disease or injury.
