Wheelchair basketball player from Brooks Rehab gets scholarship – FirstCoastNews.com

At the age of 12, Tim Houston was introduced to Brooks Rehabilitation Adaptive Sports & Recreation. While he tried many activities, he kept coming back to wheelchair basketball and played with the Brooks Ballers every year since. When the Brooks Pediatric Adaptive Recreation program was created, Tim played and mentored the younger players, teaching them all he was taught about wheelchair basketball. Both teams won national titles.

“This program has impacted me so much, not only as an athlete but as a person,” said Tim. “Basketball has changed my life. It’s made me a more confident person. It’s given me an identity. Wheelchair basketball is who I am and Brooks is a huge part of that. And now I get to go to college and play basketball, something I never pictured before and I am so grateful for the opportunity.”

First Coast News recently aired a story of Tim’s journey from young athlete to winning a gold medal this March at the U-23 Americas Championship in Mexico to a scholarship to play wheelchair basketball at the University of Alabama this fall.
