On Jan. 21-22, Brooks Rehabilitation hosted the inaugural Brooks Borne to Play Classic Junior Wheelchair Basketball Tournament for athletes from 6-18 years old. In addition to our very own award-winning Brooks BullSharks, we were excited to welcome six other teams from Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, Mississippi and Houston. Athletes competed in one of two age brackets: Junior Varsity (13-18 y/o) and Junior Prep (6-12 y/o).

The Brooks Borne to Play Classic was named in honor of Christian Borne, Sr. Christian was a physical therapist at Brooks for 20 years. He was a dedicated husband, father, and son as well as a passionate triathlete and advocate of sports and fitness. Christian committed his life to serving those around him with compassion and generosity. He unexpectedly suffered a heart attack in August 2021 and passed away. His legacy continues through his wife Elaine and sons Christian, Jr. and Andrew. Christian, Jr. is a member of the Brooks BullSharks Junior Varsity Team.

Wheelchair basketball is one of the many activities offered through Brooks Pediatric Recreation, a free program that provides a safe and supportive environment for youth with physical and/or developmental disabilities so they can engage in recreational activities with their peers. It offers both sport and recreation programs year round, focusing on social connection, family empowerment and community integration. The Brooks Pediatric Recreation Program serves any child, from birth to 18 years old, with any type of limitation/disability (physical, developmental, cognitive, sensory, and social).

Several news outlets came to cover all of the action:
