Katherine, who lost both legs below the knee in 2007 at the age of 21 due to sepsis, now uses prosthetics and has regained complete independence. Reflecting on her journey, she recalls, “When I first returned home, my mother served as my full-time caregiver. Today, I am completely independent, working full-time and engaging in all the activities I enjoy. It is possible to return to a normal life after amputation.” Upon returning home, one of her biggest challenges was ensuring accessibility, particularly in the bathroom. Despite these hurdles, Katherine’s experience demonstrates the potential for a fulfilling and independent life after amputation.
