Phyllis lost her leg to vascular issues in 2009 at the age of 65. She uses a manual wheelchair, propels her foot to get around, and does not use a prosthetic. Mastering everyday life skills was the most challenging aspect of her recovery post-amputation. However, she has become a master of the JTA bus service in Jacksonville. She is capable of teaching others how to navigate the system successfully.
