Video Transcript

Hi, my name is Logan Taulbee. I’m a geriatric physical therapist at our Ponte Vedra Beach location, and I’ll be talking about the importance of taking care of your bones.

Bone density and strength can decrease over time, potentially leading to osteoporosis, and this can make you more likely to break a bone with a fall or an accident, but you can slow this process.

Talk to your primary care doctor if you’re over 65 about screening and testing.

Perform strength exercise with weights.

Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol intake, and eat a balanced diet.

It’s also important if you do have low bone density or osteoporosis to avoid excessive bending at your back and spine.

Instead, keep your spine neutral and hinge at your hips.

If you’d like to discuss further and learn more, talk to your physical therapist about performing and building a personalized exercise plan to meet your functional needs and maximize your function.

Thank you for watching.
