We are excited to announce that the Brooks Adaptive Sports & Recreation Program was recently recognized as a Paralympic Sport Club by the United States Olympic Committee!
Since 2007, U.S. Paralympics has partnered with community organizations from across the country to create a network of Paralympic Sport Clubs that provide local sport programming for people with Paralympic-eligible impairments.
The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program was chosen for the wide-variety of programs it offers and its continued support of Paralympic athletes and hopefuls.
The official announcement was made on national Olympic Day on Tuesday, June 23rd.ย Brooks celebrated OlympicDay by holding a ceremony at the Brooks YMCA to announce its new program status and showcase its various adaptive programs. Many athletes from several of the program’s sports including basketball, quad rugby, and rowing were on hand to take part in scrimmages and demonstrations.
The ceremony featured presentations from two former olympians. Nancy Hogshead-Makar won three gold medals and one silver in swimming at the 1984 Olympics, and Brooks rowing coach Scott Brown who participated in the 2008 Paralympics.
