Hi, and welcome to the Brooks Kitchen Safety Series. My name is Sylvie, and I am an occupational therapist at Brooks Rehabilitation.

Today, we’re going to talk about ways to remain safe when reaching in your kitchen.

Place frequently used items such as your coffee mug when they can be easily reached. Stay close to the counter top and place one hand on the surface when reaching up or out. Slide items instead of lifting and carrying them. It is safer, and it helps conserve energy.

Common items or appliances should be placed at least waist level, and no higher than shoulder level to avoid over bending or overreaching on your toes.

Ask you occupational therapist for more kitchen safety tips.

Hope this help, and stay safe.
