Program Coordinator for the Brooks Clinical Practice Enhancement Program

Briana Elson is an occupational therapist with specialty training in neurologic occupational therapy. She completed an AOTA fellowship at Brooks Rehabilitation in 2018. She holds board certification in physical rehabilitation through the American Occupational Therapy Association and is a certified brain injury specialist through the Brain Injury Association of America. She serves as program coordinator for the Brooks Clinical Practice Enhancement Program through the Brooks Institute of Higher Learning.

Elson’s clinical experience has led to involvement in multiple research projects, including work as a clinician-researcher on an NIH clinical trial through the Brooks–PHHP research collaboration. She has received funding through the Brooks-sponsored GRACE project and Brooks Institute of Higher Learning clinical research implementation science grants. She has designed and conducted IRB-approved mixed-methods studies examining hospital-to-home transitions for neurologic populations, with a focus on improving discharge preparedness for patients and caregivers. In 2024, she was selected as an American Occupational Therapy Foundation STRIDE mentored research scholar, receiving funding and mentorship to support a career in clinical research.

Elson is pursuing a PhD in health-related sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her research interests include knowledge-to-performance gaps within the learning health system framework, with a focus on improving the adoption of effective, efficient and evidence-informed rehabilitation interventions for neurologic populations.
