The Spice Goddess, Chef Bal Arneson, Visits Brooks Rehabilitation

Celebrity Chef Bal Arneson, “Spice Goddess” of the Cooking Channel, visited Brooks Rehabilitation again this year to share her trademark spice infused cooking with our residents, families, visitors and guests.

Her first stop of the day was our Brooks Clubhouse, a day program for individuals who have suffered an acquired brain injury. Members of the culinary work-unit assisted Chef Bal with preparation of her Stuffed French Toast with Cherry Salsa. Mike Mitchell, a brain injury survivor himself, manages the culinary unit and was excited about the opportunity to work alongside an internationally known chef. He admitted, “I’ve used these spices before but never in this combination. I like her style!”

She then answered questions and discussed spices with visitors and patients at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital before finishing the day at Brooks University Crossing, our newest skilled nursing facility. Her unique take on cookies and milk was a favorite with residents who asked for seconds and thirds.

Chef Bal’s visit is part of Morrison Community Living’s Celebrity Chef Series, offered in partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation, to bring interactive and engaging culinary experiences to our patients.
