Muscular Dystrophy


Muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder causing progressive muscle weakness.

There are over 30 types of muscular dystrophies with the major kinds being: Duchenne, Becker, Myotonic, Limb-Gridle, Facioscapulohumeral, Congenital, Distal, Oculopharyngeal, and Emery-Dreifuss. The type of muscular dystrophy is categorized by the muscles that are primarily affected, degree of weakness, and how quickly they progress. Muscular dystrophies are diagnosed via genetic testing, muscle biopsy, enzyme testing, and/or MRI/Ultrasound.
