Brooks Behavioral Medicine provides a full complement of cognitive and behavioral evaluation and therapy services related to the physical, mental and emotional recovery of our patients.

Who we serve

Individuals who have experienced a medical condition or trauma that has affected their ability to function, affecting their physical, cognitive and emotional functioning. This may include individuals with traumatic brain injury, concussions, stroke, chronic pain, spinal cord injuriesย and amputation.

Our behavioral medicine services

Evaluations and treatment services within behavioral medicine focus on the whole person physically, cognitively and emotionally to help achieve the highest level of recovery and participation in life.

Neuropsychology services

These comprehensive evaluations assess the cognitive and emotional status of our patients in order to assist with diagnosis and treatment plans.

Psychotherapy services

Psychotherapy is provided as behavioral medicine therapy for the treatment of emotional distress and adjustment issues related to the onset of the medical condition.

Cognitive rehabilitation

Cognitive rehabilitation provides therapeutic interventions to improve attention, problem-solving, and memory skills that are often associated with an injury to the brain.

Driving evaluations

Our driver rehabilitation program includes a comprehensive clinical evaluation, which includes office testing and an on-the-road assessment in our dual-control vehicle. Driving training is also available if needed.

Functional capacity evaluations

Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) are comprehensive assessments that provide detailed information about an individualโ€™s ability related to daily functions including the ability to return to his or her previous level of employment.

Behavioral medicine programs

The behavioral medicine team at Brooks oversees our intensive multidisciplinary day treatment programs that help patients transition from a post-acute rehabilitation hospital setting to home.

Brain Injury Day Treatment Program

This CARF-accredited program offers interdisciplinary treatment for patients with brain injury to improve cognitive, physical, psychosocial and daily living functional skills to become more independent in their home, community and work.

Spinal Cord Injury & Related Disorders Day Treatment Program (SCI/D)

This program is an interdisciplinary rehabilitation program designed to provide intense therapy for patients who have had a spinal cord injury or similar neurological impairment.

Our program leaders

Our behavioral medicine team includes psychologists, neuropsychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, certified driving evaluators, psychometrists and cognitive rehabilitation therapists.
