Renee’s husband, Chuck, was 58 years old when he was involved in a parachuting accident. He was intubated for five days, initially unable to communicate and suffered from double vision and weakness in his left leg. Chuck continues to live with weakness in his left leg and memory issues. Renee’s biggest challenges upon Chuck’s return home were assisting him in relearning self-care and managing his memory difficulties. Through this experience, Renee has learned that it is not essential to fight every little memory mistake Chuck makes; instead, she focuses on keeping track of the bigger things. She wishes she had someone to talk to when Chuck was first injured, so she hopes to provide that support for others just starting their journey. Renee is available to discuss any aspect of being the spouse of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivor.
