Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 45, Sylvia now uses either a manual or power wheelchair, depending on her destination. She drives a modified van equipped with a ramp and hand controls. One of her biggest challenges has been managing the risk of falling. Despite her struggles, in 2023 Sylvia completed the 500-mile Camino de Santiago with the support of friends and family. Since 2022, she has also participated in the MS150 Cycle to the Shore. Sylvia has actively engaged in therapies through outpatient services, the Neuro Recovery Center, and Adaptive Sports and Recreation. She is open and comfortable discussing all aspects of living life from a wheelchair.
