At the age of 19, François was involved in a motocross accident while making a jump, which led to his spinal cord injury. Today, he uses a manual wheelchair and catheters and maintains a bowel program. The hardest part of transitioning home for François was learning to manage and complete his self-care tasks. During his recovery, François utilized resources at the Neuro Recovery Center, was matched with a peer mentor and participated in the Adaptive Sports and Recreation program. Now, François drives with hand controls and enjoys a fulfilling life surrounded by friends, family and new experiences. He is also a member of the Brooks Ballers wheelchair basketball team. François is comfortable discussing all aspects of living with a spinal cord injury and is open to sharing his experiences.
