Luther was injured in 2009 when he was hit by a car while stopped at a red light on his motorcycle. Today, he uses a manual or power wheelchair, depending on his destination and activity. He also relies on catheters and maintains a bowel program. Luther describes the most difficult challenges after his injury as feeling withdrawn and disconnected from others, along with managing the basic personal care needs associated with living with a spinal cord injury (SCI). About one year after his injury, Luther began participating in Adaptive Sports and utilizing the Neuro Recovery Center as a resource. He is now comfortable discussing all aspects of life with a SCI.
