Laura Geiwitz MS, CCC-SLP, CPCRT, CBIS, is the clinical lead for the disorders of consciousness program at Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, Florida. Laura is a certified practitioner of cognitive rehab therapy and a caregiver and staff educator for brain injury recovery.
Laura earned both her Bachelors and Master of Science degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Az. She has held positions of treating therapist as well as managerial roles across inpatient, outpatient, and skilled nursing settings. Laura was the area manager for over 10 skilled nursing facilities across the state of Arizona. She was also part of a Day Treatment team in Las Vegas for two years.
For over three decades, Laura has continued to gain experience in brain injury rehabilitation and has served as a mentor to many therapists along the way. In 2019, she assumed the role of clinical lead for the DoC program and has been training staff and ensuring quality care for this very delicate patient population.
In addition to insuring that staff is trained and current with their DoC skills, Laura also spends significant one-to-one time with the families to provide in-depth education related to the diagnosis and for return to home preparedness. Laura is passionate about the DoC population.
