St Paddy’s Day isn’t the Only Reason to Go Green

Back to physical health resource hub

In 2009, Brooks was the first healthcare organization to construct a LEED-certified green building on its campus. LEED certified, or Green buildings are built with minimal negative impact on the environment and with the emphasis on conserving natural resources. As an active and engaged member of the community, we believe in doing all we can to make Jacksonville a healthier place to live.

When we heard that JEA and the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) were seeking local businesses to install plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging stations, it seemed like a natural fit.  The number of people driving electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids is on the rise in Northeast Florida. Providing a publically accessible charging station would allow us to continue to support “green” thinking in our organization and within the community.

The PEV charging station was installed earlier this month at our University Blvd campus. It is one of 30 new public PEV car charging stations being constructed in the Jacksonville area. The overall goal is to promote electric driving and ease “range anxiety”, the concern electric vehicle owners have about being away from home and needing to charge their car.

Our PEV charging station is convenient and accessible 24/7 to anyone who drives onto the Brooks campus to utilize for free.
