National Nurses Week is a time to honor the care, commitment, and compassion that nurses show their patients every day. As part of our annual celebration, we select one nurse who displays outstanding nursing service to receive our Voice of Nursing award. We are proud to name Emily Geiger as this year’s winner.

Emily is a weekend nurse at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in the pediatric unit. She has been working for Brooks since 2011 and is someone who the entire team enjoys working with.

Her peers nominated her for this award based on her positive attitude and willingness to go above and beyond. Emily picks up extra shifts on her unit during the week and also is willing to fill in when other units need help.

It is clear to everyone she works with that her top goal is to make sure the patient receives the best care possible. When Emily found that one of her patients liked chicken wings, she stopped by a restaurant on her way to work and purchased chicken wings for him as a special treat.

“It’s a very rewarding and satisfying position to help patients get back to their lives. Our employees really care about improving patient outcomes and getting them to smile,” said Emily.
