Brooks in the News: Cyberdyne Hybrid Assistive Limb Treatment

When rocker Ozzy Osbourne announced his retirement from touring, he mentioned “groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment.” Brooks Rehabilitation was the first, and only one of two locations in the U.S., to offer Cyberdyne Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL) treatments.

The HAL, created by global technology company Cyberdyne, is a lower extremity exoskeleton designed to help patients improve lower-limb movement. HAL works by detecting small electrical signals a patient transmits to the surface of the skin when thinking about a specific movement. HAL then interprets these signals to assist in the desired movement.

Brooks is proud to offer HAL therapy at our Neuro Recovery Center in Jacksonville, Fla., and our Osceola Crossings outpatient therapy clinic in Kissimmee, Fla. The HAL technology can be fundamental in helping therapists to treat patients impacted by the effects of a spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, MS, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, as well as multiple other neuromuscular conditions.

Media outlets were curious about this technology and reached out to Brooks to learn more.
