Meet the New Brooks VP of Nursing: Corinne Romano

Brooks is proud to announce the hiring of Corinne Romano, RN, MSN, CENP, CRRN as the new Vice President of Nursing for Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital.

Corinne brings with her a wealth of experience, knowledge and leadership in the field of inpatient rehabilitation.  We recently sat down with her to find out more about her background and her plans for her new role.

What attracted you to Brooks Rehabilitation?

“I have known about Brooks since the very beginning of my work in South Florida (1998). Brooks was always a “go to” place for state-of-the-art approach to rehab challenges. I am thrilled to be part of this incredible team!”

What is your favorite part about being a nurse?

“My favorite part of being a nurse is being a part of people’s ability to take charge of their health and well-being!”

What are some of your initial priorities with this new position?

“The Magnet journey is a major focus. I want to ensure that staff are engaged in the process and that it has meaning. That is, and will continue to be, a major priority.

This shared governance model is best practice for driving excellence in nursing care at all levels in the organization. It improves nursing satisfaction and reduces turnover. At a time when we are about to be really challenged in this country with nursing supply and demand, it helps position us to have and maintain a healthy nursing workforce.”

What is your leadership style?

“I am most comfortable in a collaborative mode, which is why rehab suits me so well. I like engaging others, and utilize a “manage from behind” approach. This approach allows me to guide and support while visualizing progress and identifying obstacles…sort of like a shepherd. My leadership role model is Jesus.”

What are you most proud of in your career?

“The fact that I work in a field where I can be just as excited about my work after 34 years as I was the day my RN license arrived in the mail. It makes me feel like the luckiest person in the world!”

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

“I am happily married to my high school sweetheart. We have two terrific kids. One is a newlywed and retired Marine who works as a 911 dispatcher, and the other is planning a wedding in May of 2016, and she is studying to be a PTA. They are both in the field of health care. We have two cats at home as well as many granddogs to keep us busy. I look forward to grandkids someday, God willing.”

Any fun facts you’d like to share about yourself?

“My husband and I enjoy muscle cars, and have an ongoing grudge match with the ones we currently drive.”
