The most advanced medical care and technology enables injured workers to achieve the highest functional level possible, regardless of medical complexity.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. August 2, 2021 — Brooks Rehabilitation, the leader in providing world-class rehabilitation solutions, was selected to partner with Paradigm, an accountable care management organization and pioneer in value-based care, to provide its specialized medical expertise and technology to help injured workers with complex medical diagnoses achieve the best outcomes.
Brooks and Paradigm together will deliver a collaborative approach to best-in-class clinical care to address the needs of the most challenging catastrophic workplace injuries with individualized care plans developed with input from both patients and their families. Together, the two organizations developed an innovative program that leverages their collective clinical expertise and state-of-the art technologies to assist patients in achieving maximum functional outcomes.
“It is an honor to be chosen to participate in Paradigm’s value-based partnership initiative as a rehabilitation provider with expertise in spinal cord injury medicine,” says Geneva Tonuzi, MD, Medical Director, Spinal Cord Injury and Cyberdyne, at Brooks Rehabilitation. “Paradigm is recognized as an industry leader in providing the best solutions to help injured workers recover. As an industry leader in rehabilitation, Brooks strives to be at the forefront of innovation. We have developed a customized program for the most highly complex injuries using evidence-based treatments combined with the latest technology. We look forward to helping our Paradigm patients achieve the best possible outcomes in their recovery.”
Josh Schuette, DPT, MBA, Executive Director of Brooks Rehabilitation Workers’ Compensation, says, “I’m absolutely fired up about this collaboration and for Brooks to be a Paradigm value-based provider partner. Brooks has a proven track record of achieving exceptional outcomes through our unique system of care. Our people, our passion and our dedication to innovation is what sets us apart from others. Collaborating with Paradigm with a value-based care model that utilizes the best technologies will help patients achieve their highest level of functioning, which is what great healthcare is all about.”
Patients participating in this new program will have access to state-of-the-art technology and innovation such as the Cyberdyne Hybrid Assisted Limb (HAL) device, the world’s first robotic treatment device shown to improve a patient’s ability to walk. As an individual thinks about moving, the brain generates command signals that produce faint bio-electric signals on the surface of the skin. HAL is programmed to detect those signals and move as the wearer intends. Working with a trained therapist, the wearer is able to provide biofeedback to the brain, which increases neural pathways, leading to an improved ability for the wearer to walk on their own.
“Brooks Rehabilitation has a strong history of developing new tools to serve patient needs and empower them to achieve their highest level of recovery,” says Michael Choo, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Paradigm. “This partnership will give our injured workers access to innovative industry-leading and scientifically proven technologies, as well as leverage our collective clinicians and robust data to maximize functional outcomes.”
Helen’s House provides patients, families and caregivers temporary housing while in Jacksonville, Fla. Brooks also offers additional services, like occupational therapy and psychology as needed for each patient. Patients can also participate in Brooks’ comprehensive adaptive sports and recreation programs that provide fun and fitness for individuals with physical disabilities.
