The Brooks Rehabilitation Neuro Recovery Center, located at the Jacksonville, Florida University Campus is a state-of-the-art facility that integrates advanced rehabilitation technology with clinical expertise.

The Neuro Recovery Center, or NRC, serves members who have had their lives impacted by a stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, as well as other neurologic conditions, like Guillain-Barre syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. Neurological injuries can require more than two years of continued rehabilitation to reach maximum functional recovery.

However, insurance benefits may only cover a portion of that care. Patients can show a 30% decline in the function they gained in therapy if they don’t continue with ongoing exercise and conditioning.

Chad Smith

My name’s Chad Smith. I’ve been coming to the NRC for eight years now. It’s been a place for healing for me, not just physically, but for the friendship and the family that I have here. It’s been a special place, and I don’t know what I would’ve done without it.

Presenter

The main role of the NRC is to provide access to resources and continued care for members in need at an affordable rate.

The NRC contains the most up-to-date rehabilitation technology, all focused on improving function. Individuals receive a customized therapy and technology program. The customized program is then consistently monitored and adapted to allow for progression as improvements are made. Members who are part of the community benefit program can use the technology and resources for multiple hours a day, five days a week.

In addition to the physical benefits, the NRC also provides emotional benefits. The atmosphere is focused around support and innovation. This allows participants to work toward their personalized goals in a true family atmosphere, side-by-side with others who are at different stages of their recovery.

Michael Sellars

There hasn’t been a single day here that I haven’t improved a little, so it’s very beneficial as everything is designed to go forward.

Thanos Nikolakopoulos

It’s given back to me a lot, to see other people trying to do the same workout as me, and it helps a lot psychologically.

Kimberly & Caleb Montgomery

We have found this to be a very supportive environment. Everyone here are very concerned and very supportive of each other.

Presenter

The NRC brings together specially trained clinical staff, along with peer support to provide the most comprehensive environment for recovery after a life-altering event. The combination is so extraordinary that people come from around the globe, and even relocate to Jacksonville to take part in its offerings. Others have been members of the NRC since it first opened years ago. Eligibility requires a referral from a physician for an evaluation by a Brooks physical or occupational therapist to determine goals for recovery.

After the initial evaluation, the participant will receive a customized treatment plan. Further skilled therapy may also be recommended at the NRC, using our advanced technology, as well as referrals to see one of our Brooks specialists in assistive technology, aquatic therapy, and customized wheelchair needs. These services are covered by most insurances.

Chad Smith

I definitely recommend Brooks, the NRC to everyone post injury. Not just for the physical rehabilitation, but the mental aspect of it, the family. And that’s the main reason to me, and the reason that I just tell everybody about it.
