Evaluation Process
Before entering into our comprehensive pain rehabilitation program, you will undergo complete medical examinations along with evaluations by psychologists and physical therapists. Each examination includes time to discuss your goals and concerns. The physical exam includes observation of your ability to perform physical tasks such as getting up from a chair, reaching and bending. Data is also gathered on mobility, strength and muscle tension. The psychologists will explore your personality, emotions, life stressors and how pain impacts your life and your family. At the conclusion of each exam, evaluators summarize key findings that may relate to your condition.

Biofeedback: Hundreds of controlled, clinical studies show that biofeedback can help and/or eliminate chronic pain either by resolving the underlying problem causing the pain or by reducing stress that may be magnifying it. Additionally, the body may become oversensitive to stimulation which can also magnify the problem. Anxiety, poor sleep and increased muscle tension are common magnifiers. Biofeedback can frequently identify the causes of chronic pain not diagnosable through other techniques. Using computer-assisted assessment and training, biofeedback treatments can be aimed at correcting specific muscular problems, as well as increasing blood flow for increased rehabilitation and healing.
This service is usually self-pay unless part of an interdisciplinary program above. Insurance generally does not pay for this service.
Physical Therapy: You will receive a comprehensive evaluation prior to treatment. Treatment plans are individualized and include specific activities and exercises in conjunction with manual therapy to help patients reduce pain, decrease fear and increase functional activity. Pain coping skills such as effective pacing, distraction and guided imagery are incorporated into treatment to maximize improvement.
