Dr. Caban was born in Mayaguez, a college town on the west coast of Puerto Rico. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus with a major in Biology. She pursued a medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Ciencias Medicas which she completed on 1983.
One of her desires included serving the aging population through best practices to improve their quality of life. Dr. Caban specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation acquiring the expertise to evaluate and improve mobility and the functional level of patients after an acute and chronic illness. She published with a diverse group of researchers from Baylor College of Medicine, UT MD Anderson and UT Medical Branch about patients with cancer and the treatment effect on physical function. She also studied how cancer treatment options differ in the presence of disability due to limited joint movement and or the lack of transportation.
Dr. Cabanโs clinical experience promotes using pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to achieve function and quality of life. She practices a comprehensive approach to optimize physical condition and cognitive performance among those with chronic diseases.
