Brooks Rehabilitation Welcomes Two Experts in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to Medical Team

Brooks Rehabilitation proudly announces the addition of two physicians, Lauren Shapiro, MD, MPH, and Ryan Haley, MD, to their medical team. Both experts bring extensive experience and a shared commitment to patient-centered care, furthering Brooks’ mission to help patients achieve their highest level of recovery.
With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Shapiro has assumed the position of medical director of the Stroke program at Brooks Rehabilitation. She is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and sub-specialty certified in brain injury medicine. She will work at both the inpatient rehabilitation hospital as well as the physician outpatient clinic with a particular focus on spasticity management. In addition, Dr. Shapiro will serve as an educator in the collaborative PM&R residency with Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Shapiro received her medical degree from the State University of New York Stony Brook School of Medicine, Stony Brook, New York, in 2004. She then completed a residency in PM&R at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where she served as chief resident. She also earned a master’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Shapiro has authored a multitude of book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles and frequently serves as a panelist for national conferences and webinars. Additionally, Dr. Shapiro serves as an oral examiner for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Haley is serving as a physiatrist at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital – University Campus and will focus on the rehabilitation of patients with orthopedic injuries, multiple trauma and amputations. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland, and completed his residency at Corewell Health Taylor Hospital in Taylor, Michigan.
During his residency, he was an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists and the American Medical Association. Prior to his residency, Dr. Haley was a clinical research coordinator for Gates Vascular Institute at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has an interest in general rehabilitation including musculoskeletal and amputation medicine, stroke and spasticity management.
